Mogadishu, Somalia (SONNA) – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud delivered a stirring speech on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Somali National Day, commemorating the independence of Somali territories. The President’s address highlighted the significance of unity and Somali nationalism, particularly in the northern regions of the country.

Speaking to a captivated audience, President Mohamud acknowledged the challenges faced by the Somali people and the obstacles to peacebuilding. However, he also expressed optimism and celebrated the progress and achievements made towards Somalia’s aspirations for stability, development, and the well-being of its citizens.

The President posed a poignant question, “The Somali people have been thinking for decades since independence, what has happened to Somalia, which used to be a beautiful country?” He lamented the conflicts that have torn apart the nation and stressed the urgent need for rebuilding. President Mohamud passionately emphasized that the resilient Somali people, who have endured immense suffering and displacement, deserve a brighter future.

Highlighting the advancements made in the northern regions, President Mohamud applauded the strides taken in peacebuilding and state-building efforts. He expressed his unwavering commitment to sustaining this positive trajectory and urged the nation to come together in a united front. The President underscored the importance of collective efforts to enhance Somalia’s capacity and expedite the realization of its state-building goals.

The celebrations were attended by prominent figures, including the Prime Minister, Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Minister of Interior, Governor of Banadir Region, religious leaders, and esteemed Somali elders. Their speeches echoed President Mohamud’s sentiments, emphasizing the significance of unity, national cohesion, and the shared aspirations of the Somali people.

The Somali National Day ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the country’s rich history and the determination of its citizens to overcome adversity. It highlighted the collective resolve to rebuild a prosperous Somalia, free from conflicts, where all Somalis can flourish.

As the event concluded, the audience departed with renewed hope and a sense of purpose, inspired by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s call for unity and progress.
