Entebbe, Uganda – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud participated in the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) Heads of State Summit held at the Presidential Palace in Entebbe, Uganda. The summit brought together regional leaders from Kenya, Djibouti, Egypt, and Ethiopia, along with representatives from major international organizations including the United Nations, African Union, IGAD, European Union, United Kingdom, and United States.

In his address to the assembly, President Mohamud detailed the significant progress made by Somali security forces in combating terrorism while emphasizing the ongoing need for international support. He particularly stressed the importance of continued assistance in building the capacity of the Somali National Army to eventually assume full responsibility for the nation’s security. The President highlighted several recent achievements by the Federal Government of Somalia, including the country’s admission to the East African Community, its election to the UN Security Council, the lifting of the arms embargo, economic reforms, and the implementation of direct voter registration.

The summit participants reached several key agreements aimed at strengthening Somalia’s security framework. These included commitments to accelerate support for training and equipping the Somali National Army, enhance air support and intelligence capabilities for counterterrorism operations, and implement the AUSSOM fundraising strategy. The leaders also emphasized the importance of cooperation between Somalia’s federal government and member states to ensure stability in newly liberated territories.

President Mohamud expressed gratitude to the participating nations for their continued support of Somalia’s peace and stability efforts. He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to completing the development of a professional national military force capable of maintaining security across the country. The summit concluded with a shared understanding among all participants about the importance of sustained international cooperation to consolidate Somalia’s security gains and support its ongoing stabilization efforts.
