Mogadishu, Somalia; SONNA – In a recent address following Friday prayer service at the Villa Somalia Mosque, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud spoke out about the government’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption.

Amidst a crackdown on corruption within the government, President Hassan Sheikh urged individuals facing legal accusations to stand before the court and defend themselves. “Don’t run away if you are not a thief and you have not stolen anything,” he said. “Standing before the court and proving your innocence is not a crime.”

Through these words, President Hassan Sheikh emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency in the fight against corruption. By encouraging individuals to face legal proceedings rather than fleeing, he sent a strong message about the government’s commitment to rooting out corruption and promoting justice.

The President’s statement comes at a time when Somalia is working to rebuild its institutions and establish good governance following years of conflict. The government’s efforts to tackle corruption are seen as a crucial step towards achieving these goals.

President Hassan Sheikh’s call for individuals to stand before the court and defend themselves highlights the importance of due process and the rule of law in building a just and fair society. By holding individuals accountable for their actions, the government hopes to promote transparency and restore public trust in its institutions.

As Somalia continues on its path towards stability and development, the government’s efforts to combat corruption will play a crucial role in shaping the country’s future. President Hassan Sheikh’s statement serves as a reminder of the importance of this work and the need for all citizens to play their part in building a better future for Somalia.
