Djibouti, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a significant meeting with the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, at the Presidential Palace in Djibouti.
Accompanied by senior officials from both nations, the two leaders discussed the longstanding relations between Somalia and Djibouti, regional stability, and strategies to further strengthen cooperation and solidarity between their peoples.
President Guelleh reaffirmed Djibouti’s unwavering support for Somalia’s state-building efforts, highlighting his government’s commitment to promoting peace, security, and stability in the country. He emphasized Djibouti’s active role in assisting Somalia’s transition toward self-reliance and long-term stability.
President Mohamud, in turn, acknowledged the conclusion of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and outlined plans for a temporary mission, the African Union Support Operations in Somalia (AUSOM), which will facilitate the gradual handover of national security responsibilities to the Somali Armed Forces.
The Somali President expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Djibouti for their steadfast support and underscored the importance of strategic cooperation between the two nations in addressing shared challenges and fostering regional development.
