Mogadishu, SONNA — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, met with Kenyan President William Ruto in Nairobi to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation. The meeting was part of President Hassan Sheikh’s regional tour, focusing on reinforcing ties with troop-contributing countries to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
During his tour, President Hassan Sheikh visited Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti, and Kenya, key partners in Somalia’s security efforts. ATMIS, which has been crucial in stabilizing Somalia, is set to end its mission in December 2024. It will be replaced by a new initiative called the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). The discussions aimed at ensuring a smooth transition and continued collaboration between Somalia and its regional allies.
This diplomatic tour underscores Somalia’s commitment to regional security and its strategic partnerships with neighboring countries.
