Mogadishu, Somalia – Marking a milestone for Somalia’s commitment to the environment and economic growth, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially opened the doors to the new LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) Storage Center in Banadir. This initiative is part of a broader plan to combat deforestation and environmental degradation in the region.

During the ceremony, President Mohamud cut the ceremonial cordon, marking the opening of the facility that promises to play a pivotal role in the nation’s commitment to a greener future. The president commended the efforts of local officials and Somali businessmen who have supported the government’s environmental protection and reconstruction plans.

In his address, President Mohamud emphasized the importance of making LPG accessible to all families by reducing its cost. “Affordable gas is a step towards a sustainable and self-sufficient Somalia,” he stated, urging for price adjustments that reflect the economic realities of Somali households.

The president also called upon Somali entrepreneurs to channel their investments into the country’s economic infrastructure. “It’s time for the gas we import to be produced right here in Somalia,” he expressed, highlighting the potential for domestic production to meet local demands.

President Mohamud’s appeal to the business community was clear: leverage economic influence for the greater good and foster development across all regions of Somalia. He underscored the need for equitable growth, ensuring that the benefits of economic progress reach every citizen.

The inauguration of the LPG Storage Center is a step forward for Somalia, signaling a commitment to environmental stewardship and a brighter economic future.
