Mogadishu, SONNA – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia hosted a dinner on Tuesday evening with leadership and members of both houses of the Somali Federal Parliament. During the gathering, he formally presented a request to hold a special session to address Parliament directly on key national issues.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, his deputies, and Presidents of Federal Member States, including Galmudug’s Ahmed Abdi Kariye, South West’s Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed, and Hirshabelle’s Ali Abdullahi Hussein, also attended the event.
In his remarks, President Mohamud commended the state leaders who recently joined the National Consultative Council, a forum focused on Somalia’s future and development. Discussions in the council centered on national priorities, such as completing the liberation of areas under extremist control, strengthening national security, rebuilding the Armed Forces, and supporting the Somali people’s aspirations for democratic governance.
The President expressed his commitment to fostering dialogue, unity, and collaboration with stakeholders, emphasizing that Somalia now has a significant opportunity to advance these goals. He reiterated the administration’s dedication to achieving lasting security, ensuring the liberation of territories still affected by terrorism, and addressing the people’s vision for a stronger, united Somalia.
He also acknowledged Parliament’s critical role in recent years, particularly in advancing constitutional reforms, safeguarding national unity, and responding to citizens’ expectations for governance and development. President Mohamud emphasized that the collective efforts of Parliament and federal leaders are essential to fulfilling Somalia’s vision for stability and progress.
