MOGADISHU, Somalia – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, hosted a state banquet in Mogadishu yesterday evening to honor the distinguished Islamic scholars who participated in the 3rd National Conference of Somali Scholars. The event marked the conclusion of the influential summit, which brought together religious leaders from across the country to deliberate on critical national issues.
During the dinner, President Mohamud praised the ulama for their indispensable role in guiding public consciousness, combating extremist ideologies, and fostering national unity. He emphasized that the strength of Somali culture and the integrity of its governance are deeply rooted in the wisdom, counsel, and moral leadership provided by the country’s religious scholars.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to integrating religious guidance into state institutions, the President revealed a historic initiative: for the first time, a dedicated cohort of scholars has been incorporated into the Somali National Armed Forces. This move aims to provide moral guidance and spiritual support to the troops, ensuring they are inoculated against harmful ideologies while upholding ethical standards.
President Mohamud also welcomed the resolutions and communiqués issued at the end of the 3rd National Conference. He affirmed that the government takes the scholars’ recommendations seriously and views them as vital components in strengthening state-building efforts, preserving Islamic values, and neutralizing the distorted narratives propagated by terrorist groups.
