Mogadishu, Somalia (SONNA)–President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has extended warm congratulations to Somali workers in celebration of International Workers’ Day, acknowledging their dedication and resilience in advancing Somalia’s development.
In his address, President Hassan Sheikh recognized the crucial role of Somali workers in state-building, economic progress, and national security. He emphasized that their efforts contribute significantly to the nation’s recovery and prosperity.
“Somali workers are characterized by their hard work, efficiency, and resilience. I commend their important role in the struggle to rebuild the state and develop the country,” the President stated.
President Hassan Sheikh highlighted the government’s commitment to protecting labor rights, citing the recent approval of the updated Labor Code as a milestone in safeguarding workers’ interests. He reiterated Somalia’s dedication to implementing the Decent Work Agenda, aimed at reducing unemployment and fostering strong relations between workers and employers.
The President urged both government and private institutions to uphold workers’ rights and promote fair treatment in all workplaces. He also expressed gratitude to those who have made sacrifices for Somalia’s development, praying for those who have passed while serving the nation.
International Workers’ Day, observed annually on May 1st, serves as a global celebration of laborers and their contributions to economic and social progress.
