Mogadishu, (SONNA): The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Qamar Ali Omar, today casted their votes at the National Theatre polling station, where the direct elections for the Benadir Regional Local Councils were underway.
The President and the First Lady met with hundreds of citizens at the polling center who were exercising their right to vote, reflecting their civic responsibility and commitment to building a system of governance grounded in the will of the people.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud commended the smooth conduct of the elections, highlighting the strong security measures and effective organization by political associations, which enabled residents of the capital to cast their ballots freely and safely. He noted that direct elections represent a significant step toward strengthening democracy, accountability, and genuine public representation.
In closing, the President called on all residents of the Benadir Region to seize this historic opportunity by participating in the elections, emphasizing that their votes form the foundation for transparent leadership and sustainable development.
