ADDIS ABABA (SONNA) — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, arrived in Addis Ababa on Friday, leading a high-level delegation to participate in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union. The President and his team received a warm diplomatic reception upon their arrival in the Ethiopian capital.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s participation in this summit is centered on a robust diplomatic campaign aimed at defending the unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The President intends to utilize this continental platform to consolidate support for Somalia’s sovereignty and ensure that the sanctity of the nation’s borders remains a priority on the African agenda.
During the summit, the President is scheduled to hold a series of high-level bilateral meetings with regional and continental leaders. A key agenda item for these discussions is to express the Federal Government’s profound appreciation for the historic and unified stance African leaders have taken against the illegal violation of Somalia’s sovereignty by Israel.
Furthermore, President Hassan Sheikh will formally convey his gratitude to the member states for their successful support of Somalia’s recent election to the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC), a victory that places Mogadishu at the center of continental security decision-making for the next two years.
