Addis Ababa, (SONNA) — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated in a high-level forum on the future of the United Nations, held in Addis Ababa as one of the key side events of the African Union Summit.
In his remarks, President Hassan Sheikh stated that the United Nations is facing significant challenges, including protracted conflicts, geopolitical rivalries, and economic pressures. He emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive reforms to align the global system with current realities, in order to enhance the effectiveness and credibility of the organization.
The President highlighted Africa’s critical role in the global peace and security agenda, noting that African countries are at the forefront of peacekeeping operations and stabilization efforts. However, he stressed that the continent continues to lack permanent representation on the UN Security Council, a situation he said requires immediate and serious review.
He further called for unity and sustained diplomacy to achieve meaningful reforms based on justice and equality, reaffirming Somalia’s commitment to strengthening and modernizing the United Nations. President Hassan Sheikh underscored Somalia’s support for building a more inclusive global system in which all continents enjoy fair participation and equal representation.
