Mogadishu(SONNA)-President Federal Government of Somalia H.E Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has on Monday opened the third session of Federal Parliament in the capital Mogadishu.

During his keynote remarks, the head of state highlighted the progress made by his administration in security, debt relief programs and democratization of the country.

He also gave an update to the lawmakers on the outcome of the recent National Consultative Council summit in Mogadishu.

President Mohamud who celebrated his first year in office this month, has reiterated how he is still committed to rid of al Shabab in the country, as the campaign against the militants is entering its second phase.

“Anything reached by the council is political decision, and political decision doesn’t rule the country, laws and constitution run the country,” said the president referring the recent National Consultative Council communiqué.

He emphasized that laws which haven’t been passed by the two chambers of parliament will not take effect in the country.

The president also underlined the importance of debt relief which has been going on since 2012, and is now close to the completion point, according to the International Monetary Fund.

Over 5 Billion US dollars owed to Somalia by different countries and other international financial institutions, which have been accumulating over decades, he visualized the people how the country would look like post debt clearing off.

He warned the constitution review will be a perpetuated endless project which discussed in the foreign countries “It belongs to Somalia and it’s up to Somalis to pay off “said the president.
