Mogadishu (SONNA) – The commemoration of 78th anniversary of the Somali Police foundation was held today on Saturday at the General Kahiye Police Academy in Mogadishu, in attendance president of Somalia H.E Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, House of people speaker, cabinet ministers, lawmakers, the mayor of Mogadishu as well as diplomats and others officials.

This celebration was due on 20th December but it was delayed for undisclosed reasons.

Speaking at the ceremony, H.E Mohamed Mursal the speaker of house of the people noted the importance of election expedition, and he encouraged the National Consultative council to speed up electoral process to avoid further delay.

He hinted that the September 17 agreement stated that the period of election was 2020/2021 but now that timeline mentions that agreement just remaining with six days only.

During his remarks, Speaker Mursal also highlighted the current administration will keep its position until other institutions will elect and come in basing on the Somali constitution, which states that all constitutional agencies will be staying in their offices until the new ones come in.

President Farmajo also emphasized the significance of the September 17 electoral agreement which is based on the ongoing indirect electoral process and warned against any change subjected to that agreement.

“The September 17 agreement is a law and already in place and I have signed. I hope not to change anything and move forward on it, if a disagreement occurs, resolve it with a mindful manner because this agreement is the electoral principle,” said President Farmajo.

“The September 17 agreement is hardly thought of and works;therefore, it should be very careful to make some changes in it”, He added.

In his speech, president Farmajo commended the ongoing electoral process, and argued that indirect election itself based on something like gentlemen agreement, therefore, anything that happens within this process people should come over with discussion and consensus.
