PM Hamza Opens First National Justice Forum, Calls for Trustworthy Judiciary to Secure Somalia’s Future

Mogadishu, (SONNA)— The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, has officially opened the First National Justice Forum, a landmark gathering focused on strengthening the rule of law, enhancing accountability, and rebuilding public trust in Somalia’s judicial institutions.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister said Somalia is undergoing a critical phase of state-building, which requires an independent, transparent, and reliable justice system capable of serving the needs of its citizens. He stressed the importance of reinforcing the rule of law and improving judicial institutions to ensure credible justice, lasting peace, and a stable state.

“Without trustworthy justice, there can be no lasting security, public confidence, investment, or the modern statehood Somalia deserves. Judicial reform is a national priority and the only path to a stable and prosperous Somalia,” PM Hamza stated.

He added that a strong judiciary is essential for free and fair elections, democratic governance, and restoring public confidence. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment—under the DanQaran administration—to establishing the Judicial Service Commission and the Constitutional Court, both seen as crucial pillars of judicial independence.

The Prime Minister further emphasized that finalizing the Provisional Constitution forms the basis for implementing Somalia’s legal and federal governance systems. A completed constitution, he noted, would deliver political stability, a unified governance framework, protection of citizens’ rights, and fair justice for all.

PM Hamza thanked Somalia’s justice sector for organizing the inaugural forum and urged participants to engage meaningfully in discussions and propose practical, impactful recommendations that advance judicial reform and strengthen justice delivery across the country.
