MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, received the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia, Dr. Abdullah bin Salim Al-Nuaimi, at his office today for high-level talks focused on strengthening the deep-rooted brotherly relations and cooperation between the two nations.

A primary focus of the meeting was the escalating humanitarian crisis caused by the severe drought, which has now affected over 4.4 million Somali citizens. The two officials engaged in strategic discussions on how to accelerate relief efforts and ensure the continuation of various development projects funded by Qatar within the country.

Prime Minister Hamza expressed profound gratitude to the Government of Qatar for its visible and significant role in Somalia’s state-building process. He specifically highlighted Qatar’s consistent contribution to humanitarian affairs, including its rapid response to the recurring climate shocks that impact the Somali population. The Prime Minister noted that Qatar has historically proven to be a close ally, consistently responding to Somalia’s needs during challenging periods.

In response, Ambassador Dr. Abdullah bin Salim Al-Nuaimi reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting the Somali government and its people. He assured the Prime Minister that Qatar would continue to stand by Somalia, actively participating in efforts to address the humanitarian situation and alleviate the suffering caused by the drought.

The Federal Government of Somalia remains dedicated to expanding its cooperation with friendly nations and international organizations. These partnerships are essential to ensuring that emergency relief and sustained support effectively reach the vulnerable communities impacted by the climate crisis.
