Mogadishu (SONNA)-The Somali National Army (SNA) on Sunday marked the 66th anniversary of its founding with a large-scale military parade and celebration held at the Ministry of Defense in Mogadishu.
The event brought together senior government officials, military leaders, and members of the public to honor the history and progress of the national armed forces. Among those in attendance was the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who took part in the commemorative ceremony.
During the celebration, various units and divisions of the Somali National Army were presented, showcasing their organization, discipline, and readiness. The parade featured a significant display of troops equipped with modern military vehicles and advanced weaponry. Attendees also witnessed the presence of combat aircraft, highlighting the growing capabilities of Somalia’s defense forces.
Officials noted that the exhibition reflected the improved strength, training, and professionalism of the army. In recent years, the Somali National Army has made notable gains in its operations, successfully reclaiming territories that had long been under the control of extremist groups that inflicted hardship on Somali civilians.
The anniversary celebration served not only as a tribute to the army’s legacy since its establishment in 1960, but also as a demonstration of its ongoing transformation into a more capable and modern force committed to securing the nation.
