Mogadishu, Somalia – November 21, 2024 – The Federal Parliament of Somalia has approved the Political Parties and Unions Federal Government of Somalia Act, marking a significant milestone in the country’s political landscape.

During a parliamentary session, Mr. Mahdi Mohamed Guled, Chairman of the Interim Committee responsible for drafting election rules, presented the amendments to the draft law on organizations and political parties. Following the presentation, members of both houses of Parliament voted on the law.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, announced the results, revealing that 177 members of parliament approved the law, with one member abstaining and no objections raised.

This approval is part of a broader effort by the Parliament to finalize the National Elections Act, ensuring that the Somali people have full voting rights and moving towards the elimination of indirect elections in the country.

Minister of Internal Affairs, Ali Yusuf (Ali Hoosh), commended the Parliament for passing the law, highlighting its importance in strengthening the political framework and promoting democratic governance in Somalia.
