Kinshasa (SONNA) – Somalia’s Ambassador to Tanzania and Congo, H.E. Ilyas Ali Hassan, has successfully secured the release of more than 50 Somali citizens who were being held in prisons across the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Somali nationals had been detained in various prisons, including in the city of Lubumbashi. Their release followed diplomatic efforts led by Somalia’s Embassy, which formally appealed to Congolese authorities.
Ambassador Ilyas told the National Media that the release was expedited after he submitted an official request three days ago to Amb. Jean Pierra Massala, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ambassador to Tanzania.
