Mogadishu, (SONNA) — More than 39,372 students across Somalia began sitting for the national high school leaving examination today, with Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre officially launching the process.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Hamza emphasized that the government is giving special priority to improving the quality of education in the country. He described the national exam as a key milestone for Somali students and a vital step toward the nation’s future development.

“Beyond security, the government is focused on ensuring that Somali children receive quality, advanced education that aligns with global standards,” said the Prime Minister.

He noted that the government has made tangible progress in reforming and advancing the education system, extending services—including education—to areas recently liberated from Al-Shabaab (Khawaarij), in an effort to combat insecurity and ignorance.

Prime Minister Hamza also praised the role of security forces in maintaining safety at examination centers and facilitating the secure transport of exam materials to remote areas using military helicopters.
