Bariire, (SONNA) – Somali intelligence forces have dealt a significant blow to Al-Shabaab following a planned operation in the Bariire area, security officials confirmed Sunday. The operation, led by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), targeted a key militant hideout after receiving actionable intelligence that the group had entrenched itself in forested terrain near the town.
According to officials, the militants had been using the area as a staging ground for attacks, but the well-executed offensive dismantled their defensive positions and destroyed several underground bunkers. The site has now been fully cleared, marking a major disruption to Al-Shabaab’s operational presence in the region.
