Mogadishu, (SONNA) – In a significant escalation of counterterrorism efforts, the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in collaboration with the Somali National Army (SNA), conducted a series of six operations across the Middle and Lower Shabelle regions last week, resulting in the elimination of over 80 Al-Shabaab militants, including high-ranking commanders.
Saturday, March 29, 2025: Somali forces launched a large-scale offensive targeting Al-Shabaab hideouts in the Sabiid and Anole areas of Lower Shabelle. The operation, supported by NISA-led airstrikes, resulted in the deaths of 21 militants who attempted to flee the operation.
Sunday, March 30, 2025: A well-planned raid by NISA forces disrupted a gathering of senior Al-Shabaab leaders in the Al-Kowthar district of Middle Shabelle. Intelligence sources confirmed that all key commanders present were neutralized.
Monday, March 31, 2025: Targeted airstrikes in the Bursha Sheekh area of Middle Shabelle eliminated more than 19 militants, including senior operatives and foot soldiers of the terror group.
Tuesday, April 1, 2025: In a follow-up operation, NISA airstrikes in the same area of Bursha Sheekh killed an additional 17 militants, some of whom were injured survivors from the previous day’s strike and had been encircled by government forces.
Wednesday, April 2, 2025: A precision strike in the Aw-baalle area of Middle Shabelle destroyed a FEKON motorcycle loaded with explosives. Seven Al-Shabaab fighters were killed on-site.
Friday, April 4, 2025: Near Al-Kowthar, local defense forces clashed with Al-Shabaab militants, followed by a NISA airstrike on retreating fighters. The strike resulted in the confirmed deaths of 13 militants who were fleeing the earlier confrontation.
The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency has intensified its targeted operations against Al-Shabaab remnants, inflicting significant losses on the group and demonstrating the government’s growing success in dismantling terrorist networks in key regions.
