Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The National Security Adviser to the President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hussein Moallim provided an update on the Somali government’s successful measures in countering the threats posed by Al-Shabaab terrorists. In an exclusive interview with state media, he detailed the comprehensive strategies—both overt and covert—that have been implemented to disrupt and dismantle the militant group.
Mr. Hussein emphasized that the government’s top priority has been to defeat Al-Shabaab militants on the battlefield. He stated that significant progress has been made, with Somali forces successfully expelling the militants from their former strongholds, where they had been orchestrating attacks against civilians.
Furthermore, the adviser highlighted the government’s efforts to cripple Al-Shabaab’s financial networks. He noted that stringent measures have been put in place to cut off all possible revenue streams used by the militants, ensuring they can no longer fund their operations.
In addition to military and financial crackdowns, Moallim pointed out that the government has restored essential public services in areas liberated from Al-Shabaab. These services include healthcare, education, and the rehabilitation of water wells previously destroyed by the militants.
Finally, the National Security Adviser confirmed that all media platforms previously used by Al-Shabaab to spread propaganda and misinformation have been shut down, preventing the group from manipulating and deceiving the Somali public.
