Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The National Emergency Committee held a meeting today in Mogadishu to discuss strengthening emergency response services and enhancing preparedness for potential disasters across the country.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), was chaired by the Minister of Health and Chair of the National Emergency Committee, Dr. Ali Haji Aden. Attendees included several Cabinet members, SoDMA Commissioner Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, and representatives from civil society organizations.
Discussions focused on improving the quality and readiness of emergency medical services at response centers, including upgrading equipment and infrastructure to ensure swift action during crises. The committee also emphasized the need for proactive disaster preparedness, particularly in response to recurring emergencies affecting various regions of Somalia.
Additionally, the committee explored the importance of mobilizing community-based fundraising efforts through partnerships between government institutions, the private sector, and the public. These efforts aim to strengthen emergency response agencies and enhance their capacity to respond effectively to humanitarian emergencies.
Dr. Ali Haji Aden stated that the meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to build national emergency preparedness capabilities and to avoid delayed responses when disasters occur.
The meeting comes at a time when several parts of the country are facing worsening humanitarian conditions, underlining the urgent need for coordinated preparedness and joint action.
