Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Chairperson of the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan, has announced the regions where the upcoming local council elections will be held.
In an exclusive interview with National Media, the Chairperson confirmed that the commission is fully prepared to conduct the local council elections, which are set to take place across various administrative regions of the country.
“We will hold the local council elections in Jubbaland, specifically in the Gedo region, SSC-Khaatumo, Galmudug, Hirshabeelle, South West State, and the Banadir region,” said Abdikarin Ahmed Hassan.
The Chairperson also revealed that the commission’s headquarters in Mogadishu is currently facilitating the registration of new political parties and renewing the licenses of existing ones. He noted that the number of registered political parties has surpassed 100, reflecting significant political engagement.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Mohamed Ahmed Amir, emphasized the administration’s commitment to ensuring security during the elections, paving the way for a historic one-person-one-vote process.
The Banadir region is making extensive preparations for the elections, with regional and district leaders working tirelessly to organize the event, which will mark the first local council elections in the capital.
