Mogadishu, (SONNA) – A two-day national conference on developing a comprehensive disaster preparedness and response strategy concluded today in Mogadishu.
The meeting brought together senior officials from international agencies including WFP, FAO, DRC, and ICPAC (an IGAD specialized center), as well as the IGAD Ambassador to Somalia and other humanitarian and disaster management partners. Experts in the field also contributed to the discussions.
Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, said the conference aimed at laying the foundation for a national strategy to guide prevention and response to disasters across the country.
The gathering produced practical recommendations and decisions that are expected to significantly improve Somalia’s disaster response capacity, while also strengthening cooperation between SoDMA and its partners.
