Nairobi, SONNA – The National Communications Authority (NCA) of Somalia, in partnership with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), has launched a pivotal two-day workshop aimed at introducing new regulations for submarine cable landings and enhancing competition in Somalia’s telecommunications sector.
The workshop gathered key players from Somalia’s telecom industry, including operators, government officials, and industry experts, to deliberate on the future of the country’s digital infrastructure. Discussions centered on the regulatory framework for submarine cable landings, environmental impact, infrastructure sharing, and strategies for promoting competition. These regulations are set to align Somalia’s telecommunications sector with international standards, supporting broader economic development goals.
His Excellency Ambassador Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, inaugurated the workshop, underscoring the vital role Somalia’s private sector has played in the country’s recovery and growth. Ambassador Abdulle emphasized that the initiative would further strengthen Somalia’s connectivity and integration with the global economy.
Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, Director General of the NCA, highlighted the importance of collaboration between regulatory authorities and industry stakeholders, emphasizing the need for a shared vision to build a resilient and competitive telecommunications sector in Somalia.
This workshop is part of the NCA’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity across Somalia, facilitating growth and modernizing the nation’s digital infrastructure.
