Baidoa, SONNA – Students from the Faculty of Civil Aviation at Mogadishu University, accompanied by faculty members, university administration, and the chairman of the Student Union, conducted a study tour to Shaati Gaduud Airport in Baidoa. The visit was warmly received by airport authorities and forms part of the University’s practical training initiatives to bridge academic learning with real-world aviation operations.
The study tour is one of several field-based training programs organized by Mogadishu University to equip civil aviation students with hands-on experience in the field. The students were given access to key operational areas of the airport, including airport management offices, air traffic control units, and navigation systems.
During the tour, students observed various aspects of airport operations, gaining firsthand exposure to flight procedures, air traffic control management, and aircraft navigation systems. The training allowed them to better understand how theory translates into practice within a live airport environment.
Officials at Shaati Gaduud Airport commended the initiative and expressed their readiness to continue supporting capacity-building efforts in the aviation sector by working closely with academic institutions like Mogadishu University.
University faculty members noted the importance of such practical experiences in enhancing student competencies and preparing them for future careers in Somalia’s growing civil aviation sector.
This educational collaboration reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen professional training for Somali youth, develop the country’s aviation workforce, and support the broader vision of rebuilding and modernizing Somalia’s transportation infrastructure.
