“Mogadishu Heritage Tour” Showcases Somalia’s Rich History to International Tourists

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — Mogadishu hosted a historic tour yesterday titled “Mogadishu Heritage Tour”, welcoming a group of international tourists from Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The visitors explored key historic districts of the city, including Hamarweyn and Shangani.

The tour included visits to ancient mosques, historic hills, and heritage buildings, reflecting the depth of civilization that flourished in Mogadishu over the centuries. The event was organized by the Hayaan Heritage Organization in collaboration with Dalmar Plus.

Abdullwahab Ahmed Ali, Director of Hayaan Heritage, said the initiative aims to highlight the city’s historical and cultural aspects and present a more accurate image of Mogadishu, contrasting the negative portrayal often seen in international media.

Mohamed Said, Chairman of the National Youth Council, added that Mogadishu possesses a cultural legacy that deserves preservation and promotion for future generations and foreign visitors.

Tourist Mati from Slovakia described his experience, saying, “The people of Mogadishu are friendly and hospitable. I saw a completely different side from what is shown in the news. It’s a beautiful city that deserves to be visited.”

His trip also included visits to Hargeisa, Berbera, and Las Geel in Somaliland, as well as some areas in Puntland.

In June, Hayaan Heritage organized a similar tour titled “Steps Towards Peace” in the historic town of Baraawe, as part of efforts to promote peace through cultural tourism.

The event underscores that despite its challenges, Mogadishu retains historic and cultural assets capable of attracting international tourists and sending a clear message to the world: Somalia is a country of heritage and civilization, not just conflict.
