Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia has warmly welcomed the official adoption of the country’s Constitution following its approval by the two Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia today.
In a press statement issued after the vote, the Ministry described the ratification as a historic achievement that concludes a constitutional review process spanning more than 13 years. The process brought together federal institutions, Federal Member States, legal and constitutional experts, and broad segments of Somali society.
The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hassan Sheikh Ali, congratulated Parliament on what he termed a landmark accomplishment for the nation. He said the approval of the revised Constitution marks significant progress in strengthening democratic institutions, clarifying Somalia’s federal system, and moving the country beyond the long-standing provisional constitutional framework.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to both Houses of Parliament, constitutional review committees, executive institutions, Federal Member States, and the Somali people for their collective role in advancing the process.
It also commended the leadership of the President of the Somalia and the Prime Minister for their visible commitment to accelerating and finalizing the constitutional review.
According to the Ministry, the adoption of the revised Constitution represents a decisive step toward consolidating democracy, reinforcing national unity, and institutionalizing a governance system grounded in the rule of law.
