Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr. Elmi Mahamoud Nur, held high-level meetings with the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Somalia, Ambassador Alper Aktaş, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy, Ambassador Pier Mario Daccò Coppi, to advance bilateral cooperation on infrastructure and urban development.
The meetings, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters and the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu, focused on strengthening partnerships in infrastructure rehabilitation, reconstruction, and sustainable urban planning.
During his discussion with the Italian Ambassador, Dr. Nur emphasized the urgency of accelerating the long-anticipated reconstruction of the Somali National University’s Gahayr campus — a flagship project symbolizing Somalia’s commitment to higher education and national recovery. Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to pushing the project forward.
In a separate meeting, Minister Nur welcomed Türkiye’s ongoing support to Somalia’s development. Ambassador Aktaş reiterated Türkiye’s firm commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of reconstruction, economic development, and capacity building.
The engagements concluded with mutual understanding and renewed pledges to reinforce collaboration, with the shared goal of accelerating Somalia’s development and rebuilding essential national institutions.
