ANKARA, Turkey – The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Salim Aliyow Ibrow, has led a high-level delegation on an official visit to the headquarters of the Confederation of Public Servants Trade Unions (MEMUR-SEN) in Turkey. The primary objective of this significant diplomatic engagement is to formally activate and implement the comprehensive cooperation agreement originally signed in 2016 between the Ministries of Labor of Turkey and Somalia.
During the visit, Minister Ibrow held extensive discussions with the leadership of MEMUR-SEN, Turkey’s largest confederation of public servants. The talks focused on the practical mechanisms required to translate the provisions of the 2016 accord into tangible outcomes that benefit workers in both nations. This initiative represents a renewed commitment to the bilateral partnership, seeking to leverage Turkey’s extensive experience in labor organization, social security, and civil servant rights to bolster Somalia’s developing labor institutions.
The activation of this agreement is expected to facilitate knowledge exchange, capacity-building programs, and technical assistance. By strengthening ties with MEMUR-SEN, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs aims to modernize Somalia’s administrative frameworks and enhance the welfare of its public sector workforce. This collaboration highlights the enduring and strategic relationship between Mogadishu and Ankara, which continues to expand across various sectors including infrastructure, defense, and now, institutional development and social affairs.
