Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), today received a high-level delegation from the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) at his office in Mogadishu. The delegation was led by Joaquim Rodrigues, Coordinator of INTERPOL’s Weapons Programme, who arrived in the country earlier today.
The meeting focused on strengthening international cooperation in combating transnational crimes, enhancing intelligence sharing, expanding joint training programs, and improving investigations into organized crime, terrorism, and cybercrime.
Discussions also addressed ways to expand Somalia’s use of key INTERPOL tools such as iARMS (the illicit arms records and tracing management system), the Ballistic Information Network, and the Firearm Reference Table – platforms that support the tracking and identification of illegal weapons and ammunition.
Minister Fartaag expressed his appreciation for INTERPOL’s continued support and its close collaboration with Somali security institutions, which has contributed significantly to curbing international crime and improving Somalia’s access to global law enforcement resources. He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment as a member state to deepening this partnership and advancing joint efforts in the fight against cross-border criminal networks.
