MOGADISHU, (SONNA) – The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Daud Aweis Jama chaired a high-level coordination meeting today focused on preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE) in Somalia. The meeting brought together representatives from federal institutions, federal member states, civil society organizations, international partners, and both local and global agencies working in Somalia.

The forum, organized by the National Agency for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (Tubsan), reviewed the current state of P/CVE efforts and discussed how to enhance collaboration between stakeholders to accelerate progress toward national stability and peace.

In his remarks, Minister Aweis emphasized that combating extremist ideologies cannot succeed without full cooperation between government institutions, communities, and other key partners. He underscored the importance of coordinated action, noting that unified efforts are the only way to provide a comprehensive and effective response to the threats posed by violent extremism.

The Minister also briefed attendees on recent successful military operations carried out by Somali security forces against al-Shabaab militants. He praised the Somali people for their growing awareness and rejection of extremist agendas, which he described as direct threats to national life and safety.

Notable international representatives, including the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, Pier Mario Daccò Coppi, and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Dr. Christopher Laker, also addressed the gathering. They commended Tubsan and the Federal Government for their firm commitment to eliminating extremist ideologies and steering Somalia toward peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
