WASHINGTON D.C. (SONNA) – The Minister of Finance for the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Bihi Iman Egeh, and a high-level delegation have arrived in Washington D.C. to attend the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

Ahead of the formal sessions, Minister Egeh held a series of critical meetings with senior officials from the IMF, the World Bank, and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.

The Minister had a productive meeting with the Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, Hon. Nigel Clarke. Their discussions centered on strengthening the two sides’ relationship, which is focused on economic development and ongoing financial reforms in Somalia. The IMF has played a crucial role in supporting Somalia’s fiscal and financial reform programs.

Minister Egeh also met with the World Bank’s Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, Hon. Ndiamé Diop, accompanied by the World Bank’s regional director for the Horn of Africa and the Somalia Country Manager. The meeting focused on reviewing the World Bank’s current development projects in Somalia and exploring opportunities to increase future support and projects.

In a separate, important meeting, the Minister met with the Director General of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, Hon. Fawzi Yousef Alhunaif, and other senior officials from the institution. This meeting addressed financial reform plans, potential investment opportunities, and cooperation on debt-related matters.

The delegation’s participation in these high-level meetings highlights Somalia’s commitment to strengthening its international financial partnerships and accelerating its economic reform agenda.
