Minister of Family Meets with Deputy UN Special Envoy to Strengthen Cooperation

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, Ambassador Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, held a pivotal meeting today with George Conway, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (DSRSG/RC/HC). This high-level discussion took place at the Ministry’s headquarters, emphasizing the commitment to addressing family and human rights issues in Somalia.

Minister Al-Makhzoumi was accompanied by the Director General of the Somali Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development, Mohamed Bashir Omar, and a team of ministry experts. The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between the Ministry and various UN agencies, tackling the immediate and long-term tasks facing the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development.

During the meeting, George Conway extended his congratulations to Minister Al-Makhzoumi on her recent appointment. He expressed optimism about the future of cooperation between the UN agencies and the Ministry, pledging to double efforts in their joint initiatives. Mr. Conway highlighted the importance of continued partnership in driving forward the agenda of family and human rights development in Somalia.

Ambassador Al-Makhzoumi reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to working closely with international organizations, particularly the UN. She outlined the numerous challenges the Ministry faces and reiterated the commitment to fulfilling its mandate effectively. The Minister emphasized the importance of international support in achieving the Ministry’s objectives and improving the lives of Somali families and communities.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to enhance collaborative efforts and implement strategic measures to address human rights and family issues. Both parties expressed their determination to work together towards creating a robust framework for family and human rights development in Somalia.
