Oslo, (SONNA) – The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Amb. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, held a meeting in Oslo with Norway’s Minister for International Development, Åsmund Grøver Aukrust.
The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in areas related to children, women, and human rights. Both ministers agreed to advance joint initiatives, with the Somali minister accompanied by the Ministry’s Director General, Mohamed Bashir Omar.
Separately, Minister Al-Makhzoumi participated in a conference in Oslo on The Role of Women in National Reconstruction, organized by NOREAF. The forum, the first of its kind to be held in the Norwegian capital, brought together Somali and Norwegian leaders, including the Minister for International Development, the Mayor of Oslo, parliamentarians from both countries, and other dignitaries.
Opening the conference, Minister Al-Makhzoumi highlighted the significant role Somali women have played in peacebuilding and state reconstruction after the collapse of the central government. The event also drew members of the Somali diaspora in Norway and participants from across the globe, who jointly underscored the need to further support Somali women’s contributions to building a resilient and globally engaged nation.
