Mogadishu, SONNA – The Federal Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moallin Fiqi, today welcomed the European Union’s continued commitment to strengthening Somalia’s security forces during a formal handover ceremony at Dhagabadan Military Training Centre. The event marked the delivery of critical non-lethal military assistance to the Somali National Army (SNA) under Phase 3 of the EU’s support programme.
The newly delivered support package includes operational vehicles, engineering tools, protective personal gear, and essential medical supplies—aimed at boosting the SNA’s operational effectiveness and improving the safety of personnel on the frontlines.
Minister Fiqi expressed deep appreciation to the European Union for its steadfast partnership and highlighted the significance of this assistance at a time when the SNA is intensifying counter-terrorism operations against Al-Shabaab.
The EU’s Phase 3 support builds upon previous efforts to professionalize and equip Somali forces, contributing to long-term peacebuilding and the stabilization of liberated areas.
The Minister emphasized that international partnerships, such as this with the European Union, are vital in advancing Somalia’s national security goals and fostering greater regional stability.
The handover reflects a deepening of security cooperation between Somalia and the EU, with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to promoting peace, governance, and the rule of law across the country.
