MOGADISHU – The Minister of Communications and Technology, Mohamed Adan Maalin (Somali), today hosted a delegation from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) at his office. The UNOPS delegation was led by its Somalia Country Director, Ala’a Nemer. The meeting focused on strengthening the partnership and advancing Somalia’s digital and technological development goals.
The two sides engaged in an in-depth discussion on key areas of collaboration, including the enhancement of government digital services and the strengthening of the country’s telecommunications infrastructure. They also discussed the need to expedite the implementation of a unified digital government system that provides citizens with streamlined access to all state services from a single platform.
The conversation also delved into opportunities for closer technological cooperation. Specific topics included data management, linking various government services, and improving the overall efficiency and transparency of public service delivery.
The UNOPS delegation presented several proposals for supporting the Ministry’s projects. These opportunities include bolstering communications infrastructure, developing digital systems, and providing specialized training to improve the skills of government staff in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Minister Mohamed thanked UNOPS for its support, emphasizing the Ministry’s firm commitment to fully implementing unified digital services. He highlighted that these services will not only make it easier for citizens to access government resources but will also better connect different government agencies.
In conclusion, the Minister called for a continued and stronger partnership in the planning and implementation of technology, telecommunications, and digital governance projects.
