MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Jamaal Mohamed Hassan, convened a strategic dialogue with prominent representatives of the business community in the Benadir region. The high-level engagement was aimed at addressing systemic hurdles hindering commercial growth and fostering a robust environment conducive to sustainable investment.

Central to the discussions were the critical challenges currently impeding the expansion of the private sector. The two parties explored comprehensive strategies to cultivate a business climate that encourages capital influx and streamlines operations for both domestic and international trade. A major portion of the dialogue was dedicated to devising practical solutions for enhancing local manufacturing capabilities, boosting export volumes, and nurturing the growth of indigenous industries to reduce reliance on imports.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Jamaal Mohamed Hassan articulated the Federal Government’s firm commitment to a collaborative partnership with the private sector. He emphasized that the Ministry places the highest priority on aligning its policies with the needs of the business community. This alignment is viewed as essential for accelerating the nation’s industrialization agenda and driving the broader economic recovery of the country.

Representatives from the Benadir business community highlighted their substantial contribution to the national economy, particularly regarding job creation and revenue generation. During the exchange, they presented tangible opportunities for public-private cooperation, specifically in the logistics of import and export sectors. The merchants expressed a readiness to work closely with the government to modernize trade regulations and expand Somalia’s commercial footprint in global markets.
