Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Federal Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Mohamed Abdi Hayir (Maareeye), has conducted an inspection visit to several farms in Afgooye District, where farmers are facing severe water shortages.
During the visit, the minister met with local farmers and listened firsthand to the challenges affecting irrigation and agricultural production. Farmers reported acute water scarcity and the neglect of irrigation canals, issues that have directly undermined crop yields and disrupted farming activities.
Addressing the farming community, Minister Maareeye assured them that the Federal Government of Somalia through the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation will take concrete measures to resolve the water crisis. He emphasized that efforts will be intensified to rehabilitate and improve irrigation systems and to boost overall agricultural productivity in the area.
The visit underscores the government’s commitment to addressing drought-related challenges and supporting farmers in one of the country’s key agricultural zones.
