Mogadishu, SONNA – The Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr. Elmi Mahmoud Nur, officially opened the National Housing Policy Consultation Conference in Mogadishu, bringing together representatives from the Federal Government and Federal Member States.
The technical-level forum focused on formulating Somalia’s National Housing Policy, examining its overall structure, vision, and objectives. The key aim of the consultation was to build a unified national vision and develop a coordinated framework to guide housing development and management across the country.
The opening session was attended by Ministers, Directors General, and senior officials from the Federal Member States, led by Mr. Farah Abdinur Ahmed, Director General of the Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of the Federal Government.
Participants agreed that the first draft of the policy should undergo a comprehensive review, and that the consultative process between the Federal Government and the Regional States should be further strengthened. They also emphasized the need to establish a clear administrative and financial system to guide the policy’s implementation nationwide.
In their closing remarks, the Directors General of Jubaland, Hirshabelle, and Mr. Farah Abdinur Ahmed stressed the urgency of accelerating housing initiatives in Somalia in line with the emerging national policy, ensuring that it reflects the country’s development priorities and supports sustainable urban growth.
