Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Governor of the Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), received the Ambassador of Italy to Somalia, H.E. Pier Mario Daccò Coppi, at Mogadishu’s City Hall for discussions on enhancing cooperation between local governments—particularly between the Banadir Regional Administration and Italy’s Lombardy Region.
Mayor Muungaab welcomed Italy’s long-standing support for Somalia’s reconstruction and stabilization efforts, highlighting the importance of establishing direct cooperation with the Lombardy Region, home to the city of Rome. He noted that such collaboration could facilitate the exchange of valuable experience and expertise to support the Banadir Administration’s service delivery and development goals.
The Mayor also shared key priorities with the Ambassador, including the rehabilitation of infrastructure, roads, drainage systems, water channels, as well as improvements in education, healthcare, governance, and financial management.
Ambassador Daccò Coppi expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and commended the Banadir Administration and the broader Somali government for their efforts in rebuilding, peacebuilding, and countering terrorism. He reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to supporting these efforts through its continued presence and engagement in Somalia.
