Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), received a delegation from the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), who are in Mogadishu to conduct a high-level workshop aimed at enhancing the teaching and use of the Arabic language.
The ALECSO delegation, led by Mr. Zaid Al-Sabbaan, Director of the Horn of Africa and Sudan Department, included Dr. Rami Zaki Iskandar, Director of the Education Department, and Dr. Ali Abdalla Al-Naeem, Director of the International Institute of the Arabic Language in Khartoum, which operates under ALECSO.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in education and culture, particularly in promoting and expanding the Arabic language, which is the second official language of the Federal Republic of Somalia alongside Somali.
Mayor Muungaab thanked the delegation for their visit and their active role, stressing that the Mogadishu Municipality is committed to supporting initiatives that advance education and encouraging the younger generation to learn the country’s official languages.
The ALECSO delegation outlined the purpose of their mission, which is to hold a high-level workshop to improve knowledge and learning of the Arabic language while reinforcing educational cooperation between Somalia and Arab League member states.
The Banadir Governor highlighted the importance of this partnership for Somalia, noting that it supports the country’s efforts to reclaim its role in the region, strengthen education, and nurture Somali culture, which is deeply rooted in historical ties with the Arab world.
