Mogadishu, Somalia – The Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Banadir Region, H.E. Yusuf Hussein, bid farewell to the outgoing Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Somalia, Frantz Celestin. The event, hosted by the Director of the Durable Solutions Unit of Banadir Region, Zeinab Ahmed, highlighted the significant contributions made by Celestin during his tenure.

Mayor Yusuf Hussein expressed his gratitude for Celestin’s dedication and partnership, which have been instrumental in driving development and humanitarian efforts across Somalia. Under Celestin’s leadership, IOM, in coordination with the Durable Solutions Unit of Banadir Region, has made substantial progress in addressing the challenges faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the region.

“Frantz Celestin’s commitment to Somalia’s development and humanitarian needs has been exemplary. His efforts have not only provided immediate relief but have also laid the groundwork for sustainable solutions for our internally displaced population,” said Mayor Hussein.

The Durable Solutions Unit, under the leadership of Zeinab Ahmed, has worked closely with IOM to implement various initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of IDPs. These efforts have included the provision of essential services, livelihood opportunities, and the development of durable housing solutions.

As the Banadir region prepares to welcome the incoming IOM Chief of Mission, there is a strong expectation that the new leadership will continue to build on the foundations laid by Celestin. The focus will remain on finding lasting solutions for the region’s internally displaced population, ensuring that they can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

“We are confident that the incoming IOM Chief will continue the legacy of Frantz Celestin and further strengthen our collaborative efforts to address the needs of the most vulnerable in our society,” added Zeinab Ahmed.

The farewell ceremony was a clear indication to the strong partnership between the Banadir Regional Administration and IOM, reflecting a shared commitment to improving the lives of those affected by displacement and conflict in Somalia.
