Mastermind Behind October 14 Bombings Killed in Targeted Strike; NISA and International Partners Eliminate High-Value Targets

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), working in close coordination with international security partners, has officially confirmed the death of the mastermind behind the terrorist group’s explosive operations. In a press statement released on Thursday, the agency announced the success of a precision operation conducted on December 10 in the Jilib district of the Middle Jubba region, which resulted in the elimination of two senior leaders of the Kharijites.

The primary target of the strike was Abdullahi Osman Mohamed, known by the operative name “Engineer Ismail.” He was classified as one of the most dangerous figures within the hierarchy of the terror group, serving as the chief architect of the explosives department. Additionally, he held command over the clandestine “Amniyat” intelligence wing and the Al-Kataib media unit. As a high-value target with a five-million-dollar bounty on his head, his neutralization represents a severe blow to the group’s operational capabilities. Intelligence reports identify him as the primary orchestrator of the devastating October 14 truck bombing, alongside numerous other attacks that have claimed the lives of innocent Somali citizens and destroyed public property.

Alongside the explosives chief, the operation also successfully neutralized Abdikarim Mohamed Hersi, known as “Qoorleex.” Hersi was a prominent figure within the group’s propaganda apparatus, specifically tasked with managing misinformation and radicalization campaigns in the Jubba regions. His removal is expected to disrupt the group’s ability to coordinate operations and disseminate extremist messaging in southern Somalia.

The Federal Government described the mission as a highly sophisticated and successfully executed targeted strike. By eliminating these senior commanders, the security forces have effectively dismantled a critical node in the terror network’s infrastructure, removing the imminent threat these individuals posed to the safety and security of the Somali nation.
