The Deputy Minister of Education of the federal government of Somalia, Ahmed Osman Ibrahin, inaugurated the reopening of a school in Mahaas district that was destroyed by al-Shabaab militants a few months ago.
The school, which has been renovated and equipped with new facilities, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the Minister of Education of the Hirshabelle Regional Government Mohamed Mohamud Abdulle and the District commissioner of Mahaas district Mumin Mohamed Halane.
The Deputy Minister of Education said that the government’s goal is to fight ignorance and improve education in the country, despite the challenges posed by the extremist groups that oppose the peace and progress of Somalia.
The Mahaas school is one of the many educational institutions that have been targeted by al-Shabaab.
