Somalia has been grappling with terrorism for a long time and Al-Shabaab has been one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations in the region. However, there is good news for the Somali people as the government, with the help of international partners, has succeeded in driving out the terrorist group from most parts of Galmudug and Hirshabelle in the first phase of the fight against Al-Shabaab.
The first phase was hailed as a success as the financial war crippled them, and the psychological war unmasked them and shown people their true colors. With the help of international partners, they have been defeated in two states, and they lost a large number of their fighters and arsenal.
Now, Somalia braces for the second phase of the fight against al-Shabaab, and the government has put pressure on the Khawaarij group from all angles. The president of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has announced the commencement of the second phase of the war, which will cover Jubbaland and Southwest state.
The president has visited the South West and urged them to brace for total war against Al-Shabaab. He has also chaired the cabinet meeting for Jubbaland state and called for the immediate start of the war on al-Shabaab. It is believed that after an intensive war on al-Shabaab in phase one, they fled to the Jubba area under Jubbaland, and defeating them in those areas will put the final nail in the coffin.
In addition, neighboring countries are mobilizing forces to take part in the second phase of the war on Al-Shabaab. Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti have all pledged to send soldiers and logistical support in the shortest time possible.
The involvement of neighboring countries is crucial in the fight against Al-Shabaab. They have a vested interest in ensuring peace and stability in the region, and their involvement will provide the Somali government with the necessary support to defeat the terrorist group once and for all.
The second phase of the fight against al-Shabaab will not be easy, and the government and its international partners need to be prepared for a long and grueling battle. Al-Shabaab has shown that it is a resilient and dangerous terrorist organization, and defeating them will require a concerted effort from all stakeholders.
However, the Somali people are resilient, and they have shown that they are willing to fight for their country’s peace and stability. With the support of the international community, and the commitment of the Somali government and people, there is hope that the second phase of the fight against al-Shabaab will be successful, and Somalia will finally be able to enjoy the peace and stability that it deserves.
