Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), visited the headquarters of Iraq’s Border Forces during an official trip to the country. He was accompanied by Somalia’s Deputy Police Commissioner, General Abdalla Abdalla, the Ministry’s Director-General, Yusuf Ali, and Somalia’s Ambassador to Iraq, Ridwan Hirsi Mohamed. The delegation received a warm welcome from Major General Mohammed Abdul Wahab Sukkar, Commander of Iraq’s Border Forces, alongside senior Iraqi military officials.

The visit included a briefing on the critical duties performed by Iraq’s Border Forces, particularly their use of advanced technology and modern systems to ensure border security with neighboring countries. The Somali delegation also toured Iraq’s monitoring and control center in Baghdad, where real-time visuals from border surveillance operations are processed to enhance oversight and protection against cross-border threats.

Minister Fartaag praised the professionalism of Iraq’s Border Forces, highlighting their efforts in combating illegal migration and human trafficking. He commended these measures as exemplary practices for effective border management and underscored the importance of adopting similar strategies in Somalia.

This visit marks a step forward in strengthening security cooperation between Somalia and Iraq, with a focus on counterterrorism, experience-sharing, and advanced techniques for border protection. The engagement reflects Somalia’s commitment to building regional partnerships to enhance national and international security efforts.
