Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Daud Aweis Jama, has lauded the Somali public and media for their pivotal role in ensuring the smooth conduct of today’s historic one-person, one-vote local elections in Mogadishu.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Jama highlighted the collaborative efforts between state-run, private, and international media outlets, which contributed to the orderly and successful voting process.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the media community—national, private, and international—for their indispensable contribution in covering this historic election for the Banadir Regional Council,” he said.
For the first time in 57 years, Somali citizens have had the opportunity to cast their votes directly for their local representatives, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s democratic journey. Minister Daud Aweis emphasized that the media played a crucial role in documenting this historic moment, helping ensure transparency and public engagement throughout the process.
